Location: Conference Room K1, 2nd floor, main building, Messe Karlsruhe
Masterclass 1: Sparkling Diversity – Methods, Styles, Origins (1 p.m.)
Germany remains one of the most popular countries among sparkling wine connoisseurs. In this masterclass, we will examine sparkling wines from different countries, each with their own requirements, styles and sensory profiles.
You will learn in detail how climate, terroir, grape variety selection and traditional production methods shape the aroma, structure and style of these special wines. We will also discuss how regional characteristics influence sensory perception and market preferences – a practical insight for anyone who professionally evaluates or markets sparkling wines!
Moderation: Gerhild Burkard, sparkling wine expert
Masterclass 2: Vintage Champagne (2.30 p.m.)
Vintage champagnes are not marketing products, but the result of great years and clear stylistic decisions. Not every harvest becomes a vintage, but only when the acidity structure, maturity and origin reflect the style and philosophy of the respective champagne house.
In this masterclass, we will taste selected vintages, discuss influential examples, and hear news from Champagne about climate change, sustainable cultivation, harvest decisions, dosage trends and style shifts.
We will taste top cuvées from the premium segment that challenge the senses and provide deep insights into the style, structure and maturity of vintage champagnes.
Moderation: Gerhild Burkard, Champagne Ambassador
